Are you a heretic?

Now I need to convince the family this is the case. They think I'm a heretic because we Lutherans practice confession and absolution. That is definitely another post.

So, your family isn't Lutheran? I thought I read that your wife was.

My wife is a true confessional Lutheran! For someone who says theology isn't "her thing", she'll set ya straight when she need's to. I was refering to other family in my post.

Hey, I ran across your blog by accident. I don't think I know you, but I'm really happy to meet another confessional Lutheran. This world needs more confessional Lutherans!
Your family I'm guessing feels that your a heritic cause the papist do a form of confession. However, when it is done properly, there is nothing more Christian! What can compare to the forgiveness of sins being preached to someone burdened by the guilt of sin?
If you have not already, read Luther's Large and his Small Catichism.
You might also want to explain the differences between the papists form of confession and our form, namely that they focus on Law while we focus on the Gospel, which is the forgiveness of sins obtained on the cross by Christ. I wish you the best.
You may also be interested in checking out higherthings.org, Higher Things is a magazine dedicated to teaching youth what it means to be lutheran. I bet you would love it!
Peace be with you.

Thanks for your kind words Alex! For someone as young as you are, you seem a great deal more mature in the faith than those “old Lutherans.” It took me years to get where you are at. (I turned 40 this year) When I was your age I didn’t even know there was a Catechism, small or large. All I had to do to be confirmed is memorize the Ten Commandments, Lord’s Prayer, and the Apostles Creed. That’s it! You obviously have a great pastor who is willing to show you that the Church didn’t just start the day you started attending Sunday school. The confessions of the Church catholic are a treasure that we should tout as opposed to hide as a dusty obsolete bygone that needs to be discarded.
Our youth group attended it’s first Higher Things conference last year with another one planned for Hickory North Carolina next year. The magazine is not only one I recommend to youth but I would dare say it’s the best thing going period.
Thanks again for you comments and stop by again and say howdy!
